St. Augustine, Fl – A fire that swept through a mobile home in the 2300 block of U.S. Route 1 left one family without a home and threatened other nearby properties.
St. Johns County Fire Rescue crews responded at approximantely 21:15 hours, Tuesday the 23rd of September to a report of a residential structure fire. Engine 5 and Rescue 5 were the first units to arive and reported a fully involved mobile home.
After confirming the home was empty, fire fighters went to work extingushing the fire. A resident of the property told fire investigators at the scene “..I was not home. My wife and I had gone out and came home to find this.” Neighbors stood outside their homes watching the activities as fire fighters worked to extinguish the burning mobile home.
While the fire was knocked down very quickly, it left the home completely destroyed. Fire fighters were able to contain the fire to the one building and protect all adjacent properties as they knocked down the fire.
Units responding to the fire included Rescue 5, Engine 5, Ladder 6, Rescue 11, Engine 11 and at least one tanker along with officers from St. Johns County Sheriffs Department. Engine 14 provided station coverage at Station 5. No civilian or fire fighter injuries were reported.
SJCFR PIO Jeremy Robshaw said “..the structure was a total loss, but damage estimates are not available at this time.”
The fire is currently being investigated by SJCFR Fire Investigators. No findings have been released.
