Fuel Spill Brings SAFD To U.S. 1 Citgo Station

St. Augustine, FL – A Lincoln that was leaking gas at the Citgo station on US 1 near Arapaho Drive brought a response from the St. Augustine Fire Department on Sunday Evening, closed the station and closed the turn lane on US 1 to Arapaho.

The Lincoln was filling up with fuel at the Citgo station when another customer alerted the owner to fuel leaking under the car. The owner told fire fighters that the fuel pump had just been replaced in the car and this was the first time it had been fueled since the repair.

SAFD reported a spill of about 20 gallons of fuel. The fuel was diverted away from storm drains while fire fighters used absorbent materials to soak it up off the ground. No one was injured and the station was closed for several hours while the fuel was cleaned up.
