A Call For Help For 3 Year Old Elizabeth
When 3 year old Elizabeth was diagnosed recently with Leukemia, her family was shocked. As a parent of a 3 year old, I can tell you I would be devastated by this, were it my son. The family is asking for help and this is where you get to step up.
Justin Estes, a fire fighter and paramedic for the St. Johns County Fire Rescue wrote a letter to all his brothers and sisters in the department that I want to share with you.
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to take a little bit of your time to ask for a small favor. I recently found out that my three-year old niece was diagnosed with leukemia. As you can imagine upon hearing this news our family was heart broken. Elizabeth is a beautiful child who brings laughter and joy into the hearts of many including myself.
Elizabeth was diagnosed with the most common kind of leukemia that children get, so the positive is they do know how to treat this and are hoping to have it in remission by the end of June if all goes well. This is certainly going to be a hard road for Elizabeth and our family to travel, so the more help provided the easier the weight will be to bear. Elizabeth just started her chemo treatments 2 weeks ago, and so far has responded well.
In order for Elizabeth to receive her prescribed treatments, she has to maintain blood levels above a certain level. So far she has needed two blood transfusions to keep her blood levels acceptable and allow her to receive her chemo, and will need many more transfusions as her treatment proceeds.
This is where I am asking for all of your help. SJCFR is organizing two blood drives in Elizabeth’s name on the following two dates at Fire Administration. The first Drive is scheduled for July 7, 2010 from 0800 – 1200 and the second is scheduled for July 8, 2010 from 0800 – 1200.
I am humbly asking for everyone that can to please participate. SJCFR operations personnel cannot donate blood while on duty, but with these two dates, everyone should be able to donate when coming off shift or on their off day. Each donation given in Elizabeth’s name will go directly into her account so she can use it during her treatment.
Please take this opportunity to help; I know it will be greatly appreciated by Elizabeth and all of our family. Also, by doing this maybe some blessings will be stored up for you when you need it. I am asking again to please help. I will let you guys know further reminders as we get closer to these dates. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to call me on my cell at 904-327-9059 or Jeremy Robshaw at 209-1750.
If you cannot give on either of these dates or you give regularly to the Florida/Georgia Blood Alliance you can still help by going to any of their locations and giving under the name Elizabeth Forte account # 0048.
Thank you in advance for your support,
Justin EstesFirefighter/Paramedic
