The St. Johns County Chapter of the South Atlantic Lifesaving Association (SALA) is proud to announce the return of the annual Point-To-Point Competition! This event will commence on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at 5am.

For those of you unfamiliar with this event, it is a test of endurance that many of our local lifeguards have accomplished over the years. It is a friendly race that starts at Porpoise Point and ends on Rattlesnake Island (just South of the Matanzas Inlet).

The course starts promptly at 5am and consists of the following:
#1. Swim: Porpoise Point to the North tip of Anastasia State Park
#2. Kayak (Ocean Kayak): North tip of Anastasia State Park to St. Augustine Beach Pier
#3. Swim: St. Augustine Beach Pier to A-Street Ramp
#4. Run: A-Street Ramp to Matanzas Inlet
#5. Paddle (Rescue Boards): Matanzas Inlet to Rattlesnake Island

You can view a rough map of the course here:http://www.mapmytri.com/route/us/fl/st%20augustine/102127281926637854

You MUST be an SALA member to compete.

There will also be a $25 entry fee. This covers aid station supplies, glow sticks (you will be required to wear these while it is still dark) and a 2010 Point-to-Point T-shirt!

Complete rules* and registration information will be available in the coming weeks. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the 2010 Point-to-Point Committee (Tiegh Collins: tieghcollins@att.net or Karissa Ickes: karissaickes@gmail.com). Not sure you want to compete? We are also looking for volunteers to help us man the Aid Stations.

We hope to see you there!

*Complete Rules to Follow. Be aware that we will not permit any of the following:
-Non-SALA Members
-Tardiness (If you don’t start with the group, you do not start.)
-Fins
-Swimming Paddles
-Pull Buoys
-Relays
-Surf Skis
-Leaving the beach during the race
