US 1 Accident Slows Traffic Near Shores Blvd.

St. Augustine, FL – At least one female was transported to Flagler Hospital after an accident on US 1 near Shores Blvd. shortly before 1:00pm on Monday.

Fire fighters from St. Johns County Fire Rescue along with St. Johns Sheriffs Officers and the Florida Highway Patrol responder to the scene. Several people stood around the car as it rested on the median on the southbound side of US 1, while fire fighters packaged one female patient for transport to Flagler. It is unclear whether she was a passenger in the car or driving, however she appeared to be the only one injured.

The front end of the black Honda sedan was heavily damaged in the crash however it is unclear what it hit at this time. Fire fighters from Rescue 5 along with the crew from Engine 11 worked the scene. St. Johns County Sheriffs Officers provided traffic control while troopers from Florida Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

Onlookers stood on the east side of US 1 watching the activity and traffic crawled through the scene using a single lane. Traffic backed up for at least a mile along US 1 south of the accident and remained slow for about 30 minutes after the crash. Bystanders were not able to offer much information about the crash but a group of at least 5 cars stopped near the intersection of US 1 and Shores Blvd.

It appeared from the damage to the Honda that there may have been a second vehicle involved, however, it was not in the road when Fire Service News arrived.

No official cause has been released nor has the condition of the female that was transported. The accident remains under investigation at this time.
