100 Meter Relay – Each team consists of four competitors from each team; with one competitor being female. This is a relay race with a piece of hose used as the baton. Each team will run 100 meters on the beach. The first and third runners will run the same direction and the second and forth runners will run in the same direction. The race will be completed when the fourth runner crosses the finish line. The first team to complete the race will win the event.
Buoy Rescue -Two (2) competitors are required for this event; one will be designated as the victim and the other as buoy rescuer. The victims will be transported to the buoy via PWC, and the buoy rescuers will remain in the starters box with buoy in hand (fins optional). Once the victims are in place the starter will signal to the rescuers to begin (from the starter’s box). The buoy rescuers will them swim to the victim and tow the victim to shore. The victim may assist by kicking but must maintain contact with the buoy. The finish is judged on the team that completely crosses the finish line on their feet in an upright position, with the buoy strap connected to the rescuer and victim holding the buoy. Competitors are not permitted to hold or otherwise interfere with other competitors’ buoys or deliberately impede their progress.
Paddle Rescue – A designated rescuer and designated victim are also used for this event. The victims will begin the race at the starting line on the beach. They will enter the water and swim to the buoy. At this point, they will pull their assigned flag to indicate the rescuer can proceed to their location. Once the rescuer makes contact with the victim, they may proceed back to shore utilizing the paddle board during the return leg and across the finish line. The team that has both competitors and their entire board across the line first is declared the winner.
Tower Pull – Each competitor pull one of the lifeguard towers a distance of 10 yards across an established point. When the tower has completely crossed the mark, the following team member will accomplish the same objective in the opposite direction. There are four competitors from each zone, with one female per team, for this event. The event is complete when all team members have successfully completed a pull.
Beach Flags Rounds 1 and 2- – This event is open to all competitors affiliated with a team. There will be a separate male and female event. Participants will lie in a prone position on the beach facing away from the batons. On the starters direction, the rules will be carefully explained to each contestant. As a group, they will acknowledge the rules. When the whistle is blown, the competitors will rise, turn, and race to the batons. Those who do not obtain a baton are eliminated, since there are always one fewer batons than there are competitors; based on the number of competitors, the number of rounds will be decided accordingly. In the case that unnecessary contact is made between competitors, the competitor that initiated the contact will be eliminated and the round will be re-done. In the event that two competitors grab the same baton, the two competitors will have a race off. The competitor who gets the baton will continue in the event, with the other being eliminated. One false start is accepted, any competitor that false starts a second time will be disqualified.
