Chris Naff and Cammies Crew

This is the first Fire Fighting family we have selected to feature here on Fire Service News. Chris Naff is a fire fighter in St. Johns County, Florida. He has an adorable 2 1/2 year old daughter named Cammie. Cammie has Cystic Fibrosis.

What does that mean? It means that she is prone to infections in her lungs, it means that she has to take more than 20 pills a day at age 2 and it means that she has nebulizer treatments regularly.

Chris and his wife are very good with Cammie and she lives a fairly normal life but the cost in time and energy can be high. Cammie is a normal 2 1/2 year old but yet she is not. When I met her, she was tearing around the grass and laughing like any kid her age. Later that night, she sat with a mask on her face and a special vest on to help loosen the mucus in her chest.

What can you do to help? CF only effects about 30,000 people so funding from the government does not happen. It is a minor disease in the eyes of the government so fund raising is so important. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation holds walks, fishing tournaments, golf tournaments and so many other fund raisers that there is something for everyone.

If you can’t walk or fish or golf, donating even the smallest amount of money to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation can make a very large difference. Get involved if you can and help find a cure for Cammie, the daughter of a brother fire fighter, and all those afflicted with this disease.

Visit CFF.org or more information about CF or e-mail us here at Fire Service News and we will put you in touch with Chris to get more info about how to help. Follow Cammie’s progress through her blog at http://cammiecrew.blogspot.com
